NASHVILLE, TENN. (NRB) – Troy A. Miller, president & CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), the largest association of Christian communicators, has issued the following statement regarding U.S. military and diplomatic actions involving Iran that began Saturday, February 28.
As a United States Navy Veteran, the powerful “America First” events that took place at the hands of the United States Commander in Chief and President Donald J. Trump this past weekend are very personal, and I applaud his unwavering leadership.
In 1987, during Operation Earnest Will, U.S. forces—myself among them—escorted tankers amid Iranian threats to close Persian Gulf shipping lanes. For over four decades, Iran has harassed U.S. naval operations and commercial shipping in the Gulf, including the 2016 seizure of two U.S. Navy patrol boats and detention of 10 American sailors.
Iran has pursued assassinations of U.S. and European citizens and officials, journalists, and dissidents, and worked to destabilize America’s Sunni allies (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain). It funds and arms proxies such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, as well as Iraqi Shia militias, Fatemiyoun (Afghan), and Zainabiyoun (Pakistani) groups, making it one of the Middle East’s most destabilizing forces.
The current U.S. policies reflect a clear “America First” approach that protects American interests, citizens, and allies regionally and globally. Operating as a Christian-based organization in this great nation with the best military in the world, we have a God-given moral responsibility; we can’t just look the other way. As we consider the role of Christian communicators at home and abroad, we believe our mantle is to wage the spiritual warfare within this current conflict.
Our continued call to action is to ask for ongoing prayer for the Iranian people and support for the U.S. presidential administration’s efforts, whether through military or diplomatic means, to take immediate action to protect the Iranian people. We also urgently call for God’s protection over Israel, which is bearing the brunt of Iran’s retaliatory missile and drone barrages in this conflict, as well as for the safety of our brave U.S. service men and women in harm’s way across the region and our many allies standing with us in this effort. May God’s hand protect and guide our military forces as they work to eliminate this evil regime and free the Iranian people.
