Artistic Director, Sean Boyd, shared “At Trinity – sharing new stories with unique perspectives and providing a platform to emerging playwrights and local artistics continues to be a priority. With True Shot Jean, we are excited to offer our community a peek into a comedic redemptive family story with the world premiere of Aaron Fields’ developmental musical. And we continue to be delighted by the growth of our New Works Festival! Now in its fourth year, the festival received 1,011 submissions from across the country. So much talent to choose from. We are excited to share our 9 favorites in our 4th Annual New Works Festival. Liza Jean’s father is injured while working in a mine during the California Gold Rush. Her brothers go to California to rescue him, but Liza’s mother won’t let her go because of the dangers lurking out West. Liza’s grandmother, Granny Pearl, encourages Liza to journey to California and show the world what she can do. Liza fixes her dreams to the wind, her gaze to the horizon, and her heart to the West – and runs away from home. On her journey, she learns that her brothers were captured by a debauched Desperado, Dirty Davey. She befriends a quack doctor, Doc Parsons, to help her rescue her brothers. At its core, this lighthearted musical comedy is also a heartfelt mother-daughter & father-son redemption story. LINK TO TICKETS
