As you may know, ACU was publicly attacked by the Washington Elementary School District (WESD) school board simply because of its religious beliefs, and our students were discriminated against because of ACU’s biblical convictions on marriage. With the help of volunteer attorneys from Alliance Defending Freedom, we responded with a federal lawsuit. I am grateful to report that in early May the WESD settled — giving us a new and better agreement that allows ACU student teachers to serve the district once again. This is a complete vindication of the rights of our students to be able to participate as student teachers in a public school district without fear of religious discrimination. We obtained everything we wanted in this new agreement, without any sacrifice or compromise to our beliefs and our University’s religious purpose. Now, more than ever, we are doubling down on our biblical, conservative values. No matter what craziness is happening in our culture, we are equipping our students to make a counterculture stand for God’s truth while building a community at ACU where students are loved, nurtured, and discipled as followers of Jesus. That’s why a strong supporter of the University has offered to match dollar-for-dollar all gifts we receive between now and June 30, the end of our fiscal year. That friend wants to encourage you and others like you to leverage their gift which means the impact of your donation to our scholarship fund will essentially be doubled. Your financial support is vital at this critical time. That is why I am asking you to stand with us today — by making a special fiscal year-end donation which will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000, in support of student scholarships. Thank you for praying for us, and for your financial support! |
