President Donald Trump’s inauguration speech was “tremendous” and sets the stage for him to “blow up the Democrat base” and prevent it from winning a national election “for a long time,” says David Horowitz, author of the just-released bestseller, “Big Agenda: President Trump’s Plan to Save America.”
“It was tremendous and sharpens or underscores what the divide is really about,” Horowitz said Friday to J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax TV’s special live coverage of Trump’s swearing in as the nation’s 45th commander-in-chief.
“When it was the Obama years and the Democrats, it was always race, genders, classes, the powerless, the supposed 1 percent. With Trump he said when you have patriotism in your heart, there’s no room for prejudice.
“What Trump celebrated was America, the American community and America with borders, which the Democrats hate. An America where you buy American, where you create American jobs. This is like waving a red flag at the Democrats.”
Horowitz — a longtime liberal-turned-staunch conservative and founder of The David Horowitz Freedom Center, a right-leaning think-tank — said Bill and Hillary Clinton, who attended the ceremony, looked “like they were at a funeral.”
“It’s great that they came, but they certainly weren’t happy and when they flashed on [former President Barack] Obama during Trump’s inaugural address, he wasn’t happy either. I don’t blame him for that,” he said.
“But this is a wonderful day where the country or a lot of the country comes together, not the 60 Democrats, representatives that chose not to attend or the mobs with their lunatic attacks on Trump, calling him a racist.
“Anybody who watched that speech would know that this is a very inclusive president and what he has in store for these Democrats is what he’s going to do for the inner cities of America, which will blow up the Democrat base and make it impossible for them to win a national election for a long time.”
Horowitz also criticized the media’s coverage of Trump and how it will now be on the defensive.
“It’s been so partisan [it] has lost all credibility and Trump, because he’s so aggressive . . . [is] not taking it. When the press dishes it out he goes right back in their face. They’re going to have to adjust to the new reality,” he said.
“Identity politics is anti-America . . . Regardless of race, religion, or color, everybody is equal. What the Democrats have been doing for the last 30 years is putting race, gender, and color right back as categories of privilege so if you’re the right color you get to the head of the line looking for a job or to get into a university.
“That’s why, it’s the symbolism of Trump’s inaugural address. It’s America, it’s one community, we’re judged on our merits, we are individuals. Individual freedom is being erased steadily, or was in America until this last election.”
Horowitz, who is also publisher of Frontpage Mag, is unconcerned about Trump’s continuous use of Twitter.
“It’s his aggressiveness that’s important. He’s a fighter and that is transforming the Republican Party. He is the guy [who said] we’re not going to take it anymore,” Horowitz said.
“He went right in their face, just look at that inaugural address, which is really an indictment of everything that Obama’s done without mentioning him by name or the policies … [It was] a tremendous slap in the face to the Democrats.
“The reason that they’re opposed to the nominations is because, and this is another Trump quote, they have tremendous hatred in their hearts for Republicans.”
Horowitz’s book, published by Humanix, presents a White House battle plan to “halt the Democrats’ march to extinguish the values America holds dear.”
The plan includes the restoration of Guantanamo, resumption of the Keystone XL pipeline project and end of amnesty for illegal immigrants. It also calls for “surprising” appointments to Supreme Court and federal judiciary and changes to the Affordable Care Act and EPA.
