NRB President & CEO Statement on AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act

Religious broadcasting trade association chief says they will continue to work to protect AM radio with the new administration, Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NRB) — NRB president & CEO Troy A. Miller has issued a statement on the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, legislation designed to protect the future of AM radio in the dashboard of all cars manufactured and sold in the United States.

The following statement is attributable to NRB president & CEO Troy A. Miller:

“While we hoped to see the AM Radio For Every Vehicle Act passed in this Congress, we are encouraged by the incredible base of support for keeping AM radio in the auto dashboard. The momentum around this issue is strong, and we look forward to collaborating with the Trump administration, the next Congress, and all industry stakeholders to protect lifesaving AM radio in the new year.”

In 2023, several leading automakers moved to strip new electric vehicle models of AM radio capabilities. Industry groups, including the NRB, mobilized to inform policymakers on the importance of AM radio as a resilient emergency communications method and a key platform for trusted, local content. The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act enjoyed broad bipartisan, bicameral support in Congress, plus the approval of broadcasters, first responders, Christian leaders, and many more. At the NRB Convention in February 2024, President-elect Donald J. Trump said, “I will do my part to protect AM radio in our cars.” With more than 120 AM stations as NRB members, hundreds of AM stations affiliated with NRB member organizations, and a community of faith-driven broadcasters that reaches hundreds of millions of listeners, viewers, and readers every month, NRB is a historic champion of AM radio.
