| WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to protect children and bar the federal government from funding, promoting, or supporting puberty blockers, hormones, or irreversible mutilating surgeries for minors under 19 years of age. The order follows a week after President Trump directed the executive branch to abandon the “false” gender ideology that claims people can change their gender. “It was my great honor to sign an executive order banning the chemical castration and medical mutilation of innocent children in the United States of America,” said President Trump on social media. “My Order directs Agencies to use every available means to cut off Federal financial participation in institutions which seek to provide these barbaric medical procedures, that should have never been allowed to take place!”  The order reads, “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions. This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end.”The order stated that this medical mutilation enters “countless children” into a “losing war with their own bodies” leaving them with lifelong medical complications and expenses, sterilization, and regret. “Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” ordered President Trump. While the order does not make child medical mutilation outright illegal – only legislatures can do that – the order withdraws all federal support for this practice by directing every department and agency to ensure all medical schools and hospitals receiving federal funding “end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children.” The order is also a direct repudiation of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and its reliance on “junk science.” WPATH’s guidelines have come under increased scrutiny since the four-year Cass Review revealed “remarkably weak evidence” that gender procedures help children. In fact, the American College of Pediatricians has publicly condemned WPATH over leaked files showing “widespread medical malpractice” stemming from its guidelines that allow doctors to improvise treatments “as they go along” all while knowing that children cannot give informed consent to these procedures. Doctors have raised the alarm that WPATH has ignored data showing a vast majority of children with gender confusion “will desist” with age and embrace their biological sex, especially with counseling. Furthermore, recent studies have found a correlation between gender confusion and childhood trauma (physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, etc.), and that these gender interventions not only fail to address these issues but also fail to stave off suicide. While these gender interventions backed by WPATH and accepted by the mainstream medical community were expected to grow into a $5 billion industry by 2030, these massive policy shifts could prevent that and protect children. The order condemns WPATH guidelines for lacking scientific integrity and “cloaking” surgical mutilation as a medical necessity for children. In response, President Trump ordered all agencies to rescind or amend policies that rely on WPATH guidance and tasked the Secretary of Health and Human Services to help increase the quality of data and publish the best practices on treating gender confusion.
