Chuck Girard (August 27, 1943 – August 11, 2025) was a singer, songwriter, recording artist, worship leader, and founder of Love Song, the band that revolutionized contemporary Christian music.
Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at a young age. In his teens, he formed The Castells, scoring two national Top 20 hits—and recording I Do, produced by Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. His early success led to a career as a studio singer and musician, highlighted by lead vocals on The Hondells’ first two albums and their hit single Little Honda. |

His successful musical career failed to bring satisfaction in Chuck’s heart. For years he searched for life’s meaning through Eastern philosophies and drugs. Living in Laguna Beach, he found himself at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa listening to Pastor Chuck Smith who welcomed the counterculture hippies, giving the gospel. Girard realized, “His grace and His love is so abundant and that’s the answer to the world’s problems!” He gave his life to the Lord. Being a musician, he wanted to dedicate his talent to the Lord. He had founded Love Song and about the same time all of them became Christians and decided to give their talents to God. “The Lord started to give us tunes.” ![]() ![]() Their music, proclaiming their love for God, influenced young and old alike toward an authentic relationship with Jesus. They released two studio albums—Love Song (1972) and Final Touch (1974)—and one live album—Feel the Love (1977). Chuck launched his solo album Chuck Girard (1975) featuring the worship classic Sometimes Alleluia. In 1994 Love Song released Welcome Back and in 2010 remastered versions of the three early albums and Love Song:The Book of Love as a box set. With this release, they went on tour throughout the country with Pastor Chuck stirring uprevival. ![]() ![]() A three-part documentary A Band Called Love Song has been released and will be premiered in September 2025. In the fall of 2024, Chuck announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that had spread to his lungs. The chemotherapy proved ineffective, but he and his wife continued to trust in God’s will. Yesterday, his wife Karen announced, “It is with great sorrow, yet also great joy, to let you know that Chuck has moved to Heaven and will be eternally with Jesus! He left this earth at rest and in total peace, surrounded by family. We praise the Lord for His great mercy and for His gift of Chuck’s music, message, and heart.” ![]() ![]() ![]() Copyright (C) 2025 Horizon USA. All rights reserved.
