Pasadena, Ca. Number 2 ranked Santa Margarita (10-3) defeated Number 1 ranked Corona Centennial (11-2), the best two football teams in state rankings, for the second time this season at the Rose Bowl on Friday in the CIF Division 1 title game. Santa Margarita edged Centennial 23-27 in overtime in August however, the Huskies were no match for Eagles losing 42-7 as Santa Margarita wins their first championship since 2011.

Under Santa Margarita first year Head Coach Carson Palmer, an Eagles alum and 2002 USC Heisman Trophy winner, Santa Margarita dominated the Huskies leading 28-7 at halftime before a crowd of 8,775.
Santa Margarita wide receiver Trent Mosley, a USC commit, scored four touchdowns that included an 80- and 91-yard touchdown reception, and he also scored two running scores. Mosley finished with 292 receiving yards. His 65-yard reception on the team’s first drive led to Santa Margaritas’ first score. “I felt great, my body felt great, my team played great,” said Mosley. Quarterback Trace Johnson completed 16 of 24 passes for 383 yards and four touchdowns.

“To come out and just physically dominate, Mosley just keeps getting better,” said Palmer. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. The Huskies’ only score came on running back Zander Lewis one yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Coming into the Championship game, Santa Margaritas defense had only allowed 150 points this season holding opponents to 12.6 points per game. The game was broadcast live on Spectrum News1/SportNetLA.
