As we reflect on Holocaust Remembrance Day and its significance, it is crucial to reflect on the importance of this solemn day, especially given the war in Israel and the current rising antisemitism affecting our community of Jewish and Israeli Americans. The need for remembrance, education, and action has never been more critical.
Amidst this urgent moment in our community, the teens within the IAC Act & Impact program stand as a beacon of hope. Our programs empower the next generation of activists to stand up for Israel and combat antisemitism through education and civic engagement. Across the nation, our Act & Impact Ambassador teens have undertaken and continue to lead initiatives to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day.
I want to take this opportunity to showcase one of the many exceptional initiatives that took place nationwide. In Tenafly, NJ, Act & Impact Ambassadors piloted a Holocaust learning program at their local high school. The teens created an informative timeline display at the main library, sharing the chronological events leading to the Holocaust. This initiative allowed all students and faculty to view, engage, and pose questions to our Ambassadors. The Act & Impact teens focused on teaching their peers how to identify antisemitic behaviors early on and provided guidance on how to speak up. As a meaningful gesture towards the need for continuing education, the Ambassadors distributed copies of Anne Frank’s and Elie Wiesel’s books to those touched by this impactful project. These young advocates serve as a living bridge, connecting historical events and lessons with the current challenges facing teenagers and young adults. We thank the Tenafly Ambassadors and Act & Impact Ambassadors nationwide for leading such profound projects to recognize Holocaust Remembrance Day. Their initiatives cultivate empathy, instill a commitment to combating injustice, and emphasize the shared responsibility to prevent the recurrence of such atrocities. Given the current atmosphere of ignorance and intolerance, it is essential to educate the next generation about warning signs, emphasizing the timeless importance of “never again” and guaranteeing that history does not repeat itself.
