Proud to Be a Pain

By Woodrow Wilcox

Important people in Washington and elsewhere want everyone in America to believe that the federal government can run things better than anyone else. But, if letting the federal government run our health care is such a great idea, why are there so many problems with Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare?

For fourteen years, I have fought mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system and have saved the clients of our insurance agency much more than one million dollars. And that’s mostly with just fixing mistakes in the Medicare system.   Because I have found so many problems in the system for so long, I am a real “pain” to those who pretend that the federal government can run the health care system well. I’m proud to be that kind of “pain”.

When I started, Medicare and the Veterans Administration were not even communicating properly about Medicare claims for senior citizen veterans. The problem was costing senior citizen veterans more money for health care because the calculations of the Medicare deductibles were so wrong. I got tired of it and made phone calls to complain.   Each time I asked for the phone number of the next bureaucrat up the ladder. I told people in Washington that the system they designed was not working and how it was not working. To my surprise, somebody in Washington finally listened me and made some changes that improved the system and avoided problems for elderly veterans.

On February 15 and 16, I helped a woman from De Motte, Indiana. There were layers of false information in her Medicare file which were causing all kinds of problems with her Medicare claims. I worked with her for two days in a row and over an hour each day. On one phone call to a Medicare office, we got a recording that told us that we should expect to wait 25 to 38 minutes before we could talk to someone at that office. That is a clear sign of inefficiency and waste in the federal bureaucracy.

When I give my lectures on the Medicare system and where I find most of the mistakes and fraud, I conclude with this message for the audience: THE MEDICARE SYSTEM WAS NOT DESIGNED TO HELP SENIOR CITIZENS WITH MEDICAL BILLS. IT WAS DESIGNED TO MAKE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER YEAR FOR GOVERNMENT INDUSTRY CONTRACTORS AND GOVERNMENT INDUSTRY BUREAUCRATS. IT DOES THAT JOB VERY, VERY WELL.

If I were not working to protect the senior citizen clients of the insurance agency where I work, those seniors would have had to pay over a million dollars more than what they did pay on claims. They saved over a million dollars because I am here and working to protect them from financial harm. In past articles, I gave my calculations for my belief that mistakes under just Part A and Part B in the Medicare system cost senior citizens of America over a billion dollars per year in medical bills that they really do not owe and which they would not be billed if the Medicare system worked well.

In early February, I met again with a client from Gary, Indiana. She had a billing problem that was caused by mistakes and bad policy in the Medicare bureaucracy. When she left, she gave me a wonderful compliment. She said that she hoped that President Trump would hire me to help fix the Medicare system so that fewer seniors would have problems with it. She said that since I had helped so many seniors for so long, Mr. Trump and his team would benefit from my experience and advice.

It was a very nice compliment. Maybe President Trump would let me help him “drain the swamp”.
