HUEY REPORT FEBRUARY 6, 2026 – www.CraigHuey.com
Key Takeaways:
- A growing number of star NFL football players openly share their Christian faith with the media and with the public.
- Several NFL coaches are also outspoken Christians.
- The Commissioner of the NFL does not share the Christian Faith of the players and coaches who generate the income.
- Roger Goodell wants NFL teams to employ DEI principles in hiring coaches.
- Goodell selected a controversial and divisive halftime performer for Super Bowl LX.
- Bad Bunny is a Trump-hating, pro-illegal-immigration, Puerto Rican homosexual rapper who raps in Spanish.
- Goodell believes his performance will be a “unifying moment.”
- Turning Point USA is providing an alternate halftime performance on their YouTube channel.
On Sunday, February 8th, the Seattle Seahawks will battle the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.
Eleven years ago, the same teams met in Super Bowl XLIX.
In that classic contest, a goal-line interception on the last play of the game preserved a 28-24 victory for the New England Patriots.
This year, Christian faith is taking center stage in the week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday.
But Christianity will be strongly denounced during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Here are three trends that will be on display on Sunday:
- NFL players boldly proclaim their Christian faith.
At least 7 players that will participate in Super Bowl LX are known for boldly sharing how their Christian faith impacts their athletic ability.[1]
Here are just two examples:
- After the New England Patriots won the AFC Championship last month, quarterback Drake Maye – who is only 23 years old – said, “I thank the good Lord” for the opportunity.[2]He mentions Jesus in his social media bio, and when asked recently for his favorite Bible verse, he shared Proverbs 16:9, “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”[3]
- After the Seattle Seahawks had defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game, Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith‑Njigba said, “I just want to give all glory to God … Win or lose, I wouldn’t be here without him.”[4]
- His social media profile says he’s a “follower of Christ,” and he often posts words of praise.[5]
Several other NFL quarterbacks are also outspoken about their Christianity.
Among them are:
- Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
- Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
- J. Stroud, Houston Texans
- Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
- Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
- Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
- NFL Coaches and former players also proclaim their Christian faith.
During this past week, former NFL MVP Cam Newton led the 27th Annual Super Bowl Soulful Celebration in the San Francisco Bay area.[6]
Every year this pre-Super Bowl event combines gospel music and faith-based testimonies of former players and performers to honor God
Several NFL coaches also speak openly about their Christian faith:
- Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald and Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak.Kubiak said this past week, “Your identity is not in your job; our identity is in Christ. When I learned that, and I spent more time in the Word from all the mentors I had in coaching that helped me get into Bible studies and read the Word every day, it took a really heavy load off just knowing that I’m a child of God.”[7]Head Coach Mike Macdonald: “My faith has really grown over the last couple years. That’s what I lean on. That’s where your strength comes from. Recently I have so much gratitude, and then ultimately strength, that you feel like God has put you in a position to lead these people.”[8]
- Frank Reik – Carolina Panthers – is a former pastor who views coaching as a form of Christian ministry.[9]
- Mike Tomlin – Pittsburgh Steelers – openly shares his faith in Jesus.
- John Harbaugh – recently let go from the Baltimore Ravens – talks about his faith in Jesus and spiritual formation.
Contrast these dedicated and outspoken Christian testimonies with the views of the man who is in charge of the NFL.
- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has a different worldview.
Sadly, there’s a total disconnect between the players and coaches in the NFL, and the Commissioner of the NFL.
Goodell wants to remind everyone that “We still have more work to do.”[10]
Why?
Because none of the 10 NFL teams looking for a new coach hired an African American.
Goodell also wants to remind everyone that the decision to have Bad Bunny perform at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show was a “carefully thought through choice.”[11]
He believes Bad Bunny understands that the Super Bowl platform “is used to unite people and… to bring people together.”[12]
Bad Bunny’s real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.
He’s a Puerto Rican, pro-illegal-immigration homosexual activist who raps in Spanish.[13]
Commissioner Goodell thinks that someone who vocally and loudly objects to enforcing immigration law is going to unite people?
In an article titled, “The NFL Flips Us the Middle Finger,” Douglas Andrews says, “By choosing a Trump-deranged, pro-illegal-immigration homosexual activist for its Super Bowl LX halftime act, the NFL is betting that its viewers will once again ignore the insult.”[14]
Fortunately, Turning Point USA is providing an alternate halftime show.
You can find it on TPUSA’s YouTube channel.[15]
